Just as London’s Winter begins to shed its skin for another year and early signs of life begin to rear their heads, there comes a new wave of artists taking up the mantle for the year ahead. And leading that wave is none other than HEZEN. After her FOLD debut last month, we have invited her back to record an exclusive mix for our DETECT series.
Mesmerising incantations recorded by the Playbody curator layer this hour-long mix, with sprightly beat-driven melodies pitter pattering along like a freshly-defrosted Spring brook. Complex conversations are wrapped up in a fairy-tale innocence, with an angelic reflection on topics that are anything but.
As HEZEN describes, “This mix is a journey through emotions I’ve been feeling lately. Breaking apart. Shedding. Finding awe in a simple melody. Then rising again, glorious, dramatic. There’s a lot of my own production, some excerpts of classical music pieces that make my heart swell, some tracks I heard at FOLD… a sonic archive of this opening month.”
Through all the dark themes that HEZEN explores, remains hope in its purest form. You are invited to see the world through her eyes, but she never cuts you loose; you’re safe here.
The world continues to be engulfed in a dark cloud of its own making, yet through it all still shines a youthful spirit, battle-worn perhaps, but one very much still alight. A new, hopeful path awaits for us all, leading into a new futuristic world, one entirely self-made, where digital and reality have become one.
